BASA approves budget for next fiscal year
BUTLER TWP — Although customers are awaiting an announcement on whether the Butler Area Sewer Authority will sell its wastewater system, the board of directors Tuesday approved next year’s budget.
The $12.7 million 2022-23 budget is up from the current $11.2 million version. The fiscal year at BASA is from August to July.
Revenues meet proposed expenditures, creating a balanced budget for the next fiscal year, said Ronata Lavorini, BASA finance director.
The authority’s largest revenue stream is sewer service charges, at $11.8 million.
Second largest are the payments for sewer inspections when a property changes hands, at a projected total of $82,500.
Regarding expenses, salaries and wages top the list, followed by electricity charges to operate the wastewater system and power all BASA facilities.
Lavorini said the revenue from a rate hike approved in June will go toward capital improvement projects.
The BASA budget will be available for view online in the next few days, Lavorini said.
