William Shoup Jr.
William H. “Bill” Shoup Jr. passed away peacefully on his 95th birthday, July 8, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Rosston, Pa., to William Shoup and Daisy (Bish) Shoup.
Bill served in the Army Air Force, working as a mechanic on the B-29 Superfortress. While serving in the Air Force, he met his wife, Juanita Sanders, at a USO dance. On the very night they met, he asked her to marry him. They were married March 6, 1947. Their marriage lasted for 68 years until Juanita's passing on Nov. 19, 2015.
After his time in the service, they settled in Tucson, Ariz., where he became a Xerox repairman. In 1948 they welcomed a son, William Charles “Charlie,” and in 1951 a daughter, Brenda.
After a horrific hunting accident in Arizona, the family moved to East Brady, to the family farm, so Bill could recover. As time went on, they settled in the Winfield/Cabot area.
He retired after 47 years to travel with his wife and camp with his family. Bill loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fishing was his favorite pastime.
Bill never met a stranger. His calm and easygoing demeanor was known to all. He was called “Mr. Fix-It” and loved to tinker in his home shop.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and soulmate, Juanita; his son-in-law, Charles Watson; and two sisters, Betty (Titus) and Linda (Bowser).
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Shoup) Watson and her children, Kimberly (Wayne) Brink and Stephen (Jamie) Watson; and his son, William “Charlie” (Janet) Shoup and their children, Jennifer Glick (Randy), Gretchen (Alan) Angelicchio and William “BJ” Shoup (Nicole); and 12 great-grandchildren.
