Joseph Kisiel

Joseph Kisiel, 80, of Butler passed away Thursday at Fairview Manor in Erie after a brief illness.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Elaine Kisiel of Butler; his sister Sophie Haberman; and his brother Walter Kisiel.

He is survived by his sons James Kisiel of Los Angeles, William Kisiel and his wife, Jacquie, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Joseph Kisiel and his wife, Jeanne, of Erie; his grandsons Andrew and Nathan; his granddaughter Emma of Erie; his sister Lucy Mahdik and her husband, Edward, of Natrona Heights; his brother Tommy Kisiel of Sarver and Leonard Kisiel of Natrona Heights; and many close friends.

Born in Brackenridge and raised in Sarver, the son of Leo and Bernice Kisiel, Joe attended Freeport High School.

He graduated from Penn Technical Institute in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1960. He worked at Carnegie Mellon University’s nuclear research center for eight years. Joe was employed at the American Glass Research of Butler for over 30 years.

Some of Joe’s favorite activities included tending his garden, winning at pinochle, playing boccie with friends, spending time with his grandchildren, and rooting for his favorite teams: the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers and Pirates.

KISIEL — Friends of Joseph Kisiel, who died Thursday, June 29, 2017, will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler. A memorial Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Joe’s honor to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, PA 16001, https://www.stpeterbutler.org.

Arrangements are being completed by the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
