Evelyn MacNeill Eichelberger

Evelyn MacNeill Eichelberger, 93, passed away March 28 in Atlantic Beach, Fla.

She was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Pittsburgh, to John B. and Evelyn C. MacNeill. She lived in Butler for more than 40 years and moved to Atlantic Beach in 2004.

Evelyn graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1942, and received business education degrees from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1946 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1950.

Evelyn was raised in the South Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church in Wilkinsburg.

She taught English classes at Swissvale High School and business classes at Margaret Morrison Carnegie College, now part of Carnegie Mellon University.

She married Thomas White Eichelberger on June 23, 1951, and later moved to Butler where they raised their three children. Tom preceded Evelyn in death by 12 years.

Evelyn developed lifelong friends from her community service in Western Pennsylvania through the local Tuesday Musical Club and the PEO sisterhood chapters. She was an accomplished singer who enjoyed church choirs and singing solos and duets for special occasions. She found great joy in sharing her singing talents with more than 300 high school students and young adults as a private music teacher.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Robert (Francie) of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; Carol (Richard) Newell of Butler, and Paul (Donna) of Mount Airy, Md.; seven grandchildren; and many dear friends.

Evelyn was predeceased by two brothers, John J. MacNeill of Pittsburgh, and Paul G. MacNeill of Fayetteville, N.Y.
