Church will host used book sale

CONNOQUENESSING — The Connoquenessing United Methodist Church, 206 N. Main St., will have a used book sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28, 29 and 30 in the church basement.

In addition to books, puzzles, DVDs and CDs will be for sale.

Rummage and bake sale planned

SARVER — The Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 678 Sarver Road, will have a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 1 and 2.

Lifesteps offering child screenings

Lifesteps will offer two free Child Check screenings in May for children from birth to 5 years old:

9 to 11:30 a.m. May 4, Butler YMCA, 339 N. Washington St.

9 a.m. to noon, May 18, Lifesteps Butler County Program Center, 383 New Castle Road

A Child Check visit takes about 30 minutes to complete. The screening evaluates child development for playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking. The results are discussed with the caregiver.

Stamp, postcard exhibition slated

LYNDORA — Butlerpex 2015, the annual stamp and postcard exhibition and bourse of the Butler County Philatelic Society, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 8 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at the Tanglewood Center, 10 Austin Ave.

The event will include a cachet envelope and insert card celebrating 45 years of Meals on Wheels in Butler County.

Thirteen dealers from six states will offer philatelic supplies, stamps and collectible postcards. There also will be an exhibition, post office, snack bar, table auction and children’s area.

Entry and parking will be free.

Spring Common Shop scheduled

North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext., will open the Common Shop from 10 a.m. to noon May 9. Doors open at 9 a.m. for a free hot breakfast.

The Common Shop will share clothing, household items, toys and other goods with those in need. Everything will be free for personal use. There are no income limitations.

Donations will be accepted between May 4 and May 7 at the church.

Author, illustrator to appear at library

Book author and illustrator Lindsay Barrett George will present an interactive program from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St.

Sponsored by the GFWC Intermediate League of Butler, George will share with young readers where her ideas come from and how she develops them from initial manuscript into printed books.

The program is free, but registration is required by calling at 724-272-1715.

‘Book It’ 5K, 1 mile Fun Walk set

GIBSONIA — The third annual Mars Public Library “Book It” 5K and 1 mile Fun Walk will start at 9 a.m. May 9 at the Treesdale Community Center, 1 Treesdale Commons.

Register at the library, 107 Grand Ave., or register at 8 a.m. at the event.

Proceeds will benefit the library.
