Hazel Fern

Hazel H. Fern, 82, of Saxonburg passed away Thursday at her home surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness of cancer.

Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Sarver, she was the daughter of Martin H.W. Fisher and Anna E. Greer Fisher.

She had worked as a picker at Moonlight Mushroom and was also a caregiver to many.

She was baptized and was a lifetime member of the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Saxonburg, where she was a greeter, and she was on the altar guild and helped with bingo.

Surviving are her children, Robert H. (Serap) Fern Jr., and their children, Gizem and Asena of Alexandria, Va., Thomas M. (Kathy) Fern and their daughter, Juliene, of Butler, Carol Arthur and her children, Chance Turner and Jacob Turner, of Butler, Barbara (Mike) Graham and their children, Niccole, Samantha and Ian, of Davison, Mich., Dawna (Frank) Toth and their children, Zach, Kelsey and Haley, of Sarver; sister, Helen (Jim) McLafferty of Saxonburg, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert H. Fern Sr., who she married on Nov. 15, 1950, and who died on Sept. 21, 1998; one infant daughter; and three sisters, Hattie E. Cooper, Viola Fisher and Edith Fisher.

FERN — Friends of Hazel H. Fern, who passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Roger G. Keller officiating.
