Major gift aids CTCC project

UPMC Passavant gives $40K

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Community Chest has received another major donation for the 2016 Project of the Year.

UPMC Passavant donated $40,000 to the effort to resurface the Miracle League ballfield and build the Out of the Park playground.

Christine Koenig, project specialist, administration, UPMC Passavant-Cranberry Campus, said that UPMC Passavant is celebrating its 50th year of caring for people of the North Hills and northern Allegheny County.

“This $40,000 donation to the Cranberry Community Chest was made by UPMC Passavant, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, UPMC Health Plan and UPMC Charitable Giving and is the third of its kind in support of The Miracle League of Southwestern PA,” she said.

Koenig said UPMC assisted in the construction of the storage and family restroom facility and more recently the Hope Hut.

“This support goes hand in hand with UPMC’s mission to enhance the health of the communities we serve through clinical and service excellence as well as our commitment to support and encourage community programs,” she said.

Bruce Mazzoni, treasurer of the CTCC, said UPMC’s donation is a wonderful gift for a great program that will benefit so many.

“It is very nice. We are very blessed, there is no doubt,” he said.

The CTCC has raised about $400,000 for the project. The goal is $600,000.

Mazzoni said in the next few weeks information about the project will be sent to residents and businesses in the township. It will contain details about the different recognitions for donations and how people can help with the project in other ways besides monetary donations.

Other major donations include $100,000 from Pirates Charities, $15,000 from the Alcoa Foundation, $20,000 from the Seneca Valley Senior High School student council and $4,900 from Fun Fore All.
