Margaret Emeline Sloan Ross
Margaret Emeline Sloan Ross, 88, of Cherry Valley passed away Monday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler after an acute illness.
Born July 13, 1923, in Cherry Valley, she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Annie McGinnis Sloan.
Margaret graduated from Eau Claire High School and enrolled in nurses training at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital in Saginaw, Mich.
When she returned to Pennsylvania, she was employed as the post master for the Eau Claire Post Office for 26 years before retiring.
Margaret was a lifelong member of the East Unity Presbyterian Church, where she served as pianist, choir member and soloist, as well as a member of the Women's Trio. She also taught the young adult Sunday school class for more than 40 years. She was a member and treasurer of the Ruth Fleming Missionary society for more than 45 years. She was secretary-treasurer of the East Unity Cemetery Association for 11 years and was a member of the North Butler Music Club.
Margaret enjoyed music, flowers and reading, but above all, she loved her family.
Margaret was married to the late Frank M. Ross Jr. for 64 years.
She is survived by one sister, Alice Altmire of Boyers; one brother, Walter Sloan of Grove City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her adolescent son, Michael in 1956; one sister, Betty McCurdy; and two brothers, Harold and Donald Sloan.
<B>ROSS</B> — Friends of Margaret Emeline Sloan Ross, who died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, will be received at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, Main Street in Eau Claire, from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Schaeffer officiating.
