Cemetery walk ready to go

The Butler County Historical Society will present “Echoes from Our Past — Historic Cemetery Walk” bringing history to life through costumed actors Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of the North Side Cemetery, 1002 N. Main St.

Characters will include Bertha Laing Wise, Thomas R. Hoon, Captain Ira McJunkin, Jane Kearns Potts, Thomas Wharton Phillips Jr. and Rolland Spaide.

Tour times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Concert slated at high school

FOXBURG — Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts presents “The Music That Makes Us Dance” at 7 p.m. today in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School, Route 58.

Tickets are $15 for adults $5 for parents with students, and free for children younger than 6.

Steam show’s Fall Fling set

PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Steam Show’s Fall Fling is planned for Oct. 4 and 5 at the steam show grounds, 1512 Perry Highway.

Attractions will include apple butter making, apple cider pressing, King of the Hill lawn tractor pull, antique cars, a flea market, train rides and vintage village.

Admission is $2; children 11 and younger are admitted free.

Mars Applefest scheduled

MARS — The 30th annual Mars Applefest will take place Oct. 4 in downtown Mars.

Activities will include food, crafts, games and shopping as well as live entertainment on the main stage at the corner of Grand Avenue and Pittsburgh Street.

Penn’s Colony fest concludes

CLINTON TWP — Penn’s Colony wraps up with activities Saturday and Sunday at the festival grounds, 365 Saxonburg Blvd.

With a focus on the French & Indian era, Penn’s Colony features artisans, demonstrations, entertainment and living history encampments.

Admission is $7 for ages 16 to 59, $6 for age 60 and older, and $5 for ages 8 to 15. Call 724-352-9922.

Oktoberfest has fireworks

JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Lutheran Ministries will hold its annual Oktoberfest celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at Haven I, 112 Marwood Road.

There will be a balloon artist, games, crafts, hayrides, a bounce castle, and a petting zoo.

Entertainment will again be provided by The Continental Dukes German Band.

Zambelli fireworks will conclude the evening.

Symphony part of giving day

The Butler County Symphony Association will take part in the Arts Day of Giving on Oct. 2.

All gifts from $15 to $1,000 made via pittsburghgives.org between 6 a.m. and midnight Oct. 2 will be partially matched through a campaign organized by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and The Pittsburgh Foundation from The Heinz Endowment.

Train rides offered in Mars

MARS — The Mars History and Landmarks Society will have small scale train rides for adults and children on the Mars Shortline Railroad during October.

Rides will go on, weather permitting, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays; from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 during the Mars Applefest; and 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 11.

The location is the History & Landmarks Society’s restored B&O Train Station, 1 Brickyard Road.
