Jacob L. Dietrich

Jacob L. Dietrich

Jacob L. Dietrich, 78, of Fombell, completed his Earthly journey on Wednesday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, knowing that his loving wife of 55 years, Susan J. Henricks Dietrich, was surrounded by their children for love and support.

He was born June 30, 1940, in Fombell, Beaver County, to Paul Sr. and Mary Little Dietrich.

After graduating from Freedom High School in 1958, he served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police.

When he entered the apprentice program at General Electric in Erie, he put on the first of many hats Jake was known to wear.

Jake and Sue moved to Sheffield in 1969, where they would raise their family. Jake worked at Blackstone Ultrasonics and while working for many in the small town, he helped pioneer the home improvement craze.

The next hat Jake wore professionally was as partner with Warren Concrete Products. There, he was at his best handling the entire production process.

When he sold his business for “retirement” in the early 90s, Jake and Sue moved to Texas for a brief period.

Before long, they realized Jake could not sit still — and a cowboy hat didn't fit him anyway. They then circled back to Fombell to buy a restaurant/bar. Thus, the Duffy's adventure was under way. After serving Duffy's faithful for 15 years, Jake and Sue tried to learn the meaning of retirement and closed the business.

In his real retirement, Jake enjoyed his coffee and crosswords while sitting at his post as a security guard for gas well sites.

He leaves his wife, Susan, in the capable hands of his children, Frederic (Tracy) Dietrich of Keller, Texas, Jennifer (Robert) Carlberg of Butler, and Michael Dietrich of Fombell; along with three grandchildren, Erica Snowden, Kathryn Dietrich and Jacquelyn Dietrich, all of Texas.

In addition, he is also survived by his siblings, Nancy Probst, Blanche Majors and Alan Dietrich; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and family of Duffy's.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Ellen Jenkins, Paul Dietrich Jr., John Dietrich, Donald Dietrich and Grace Dietrich.
