Osborne

Betty Jean Osborne, 87, of Slippery Rock, passed away at Orchard Manor in Grove City on Friday, July 1, 2022.

She was born in Butler County on Jan. 20, 1935, the daughter of Clarence Jay Mackey and Florence Susan Castor Mackey. She married W. Kirby Osborne in May of 1952 and they recently had celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Betty worked in the cafeteria at Slippery Rock High School and made many friends with faculty, staff and students. She retired from the school in 1997. She was a member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. She loved watching her grandchildren, swimming in her pool, working in the flower garden, baking and spending time with Kirby at their place in Florida.

Survivors include three daughters, Vickie S. Osborne of Hague, N.D.; Vonnie J. (Leroy) Hogg of Slippery Rock; Valerie A. Osborne of Butler; a sister, Beverly Barron, of Slippery Rock; two half-sisters, Donna Wertz, of Chandler, Ariz., and Cindy Moore, of Mercer; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Vanette R. Osborne; a brother, Jay Mackey; and two half-brothers, Tommy and Albert Shanor.

OSBORNE — The family will receive friends for for Betty Jean Osborne, who died Friday, July 1, 2022, from 1 p.m. until the service at 4 p.m. Sunday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Keith McIlwain presiding.

Interment will be in Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township, Butler County.
