2 Friday night accidents cause injuries

Medical helicopters took patients to hospitals from the sites of two vehicle accidents on Friday night in Butler County.

First, at about 10:25 p.m. a male bicyclist was struck by an apparent hit-and-run vehicle on Armco Drive on Route 8 south of Butler, leaving the rider with unknown injuries.

According to Butler County emergency dispatchers, a medical helicopter responded to the crash in Butler Township.

The vehicle fled in an unknown direction, and the bicyclist’s identity and condition were not released early Saturday morning.

Then at 11:53 p.m. a crash occurred near the 22-mile marker in the west-bound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Cranberry Township.

At least one vehicle was involved in the crash and caught fire, and one person had to be pulled by emergency crews from a vehicle, according to state police.

A medical helicopter also responded to that incident, though it is unclear how many vehicles or people were involved.

Firefighters, EMS and police were at that crash for more than an hour, during which the turnpike’s west-bound lanes were completely blocked, state police said.

There was no other information available Saturday morning from authorities about that accident.
