Kaleidoscope at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK Henry David Thoreau, the 19th century author of "Walden," or "Life in the Woods" will come to life when visiting English professor and character actor Kevin Radaker presents a Thoreau monologue at 4 p.m. April 20 in Spotts World Culture Building Auditorium at Slippery Rock University.
The free event is part of SRU's Kaleidoscope Arts Festival.
The festival begins at 4:30 p.m. April 15 with an opening ceremony in the Bailey Library quad. Local bands will perform, and a picnic dinner will be offered until 8 p.m.
Activities continue through April 26, including a special Kids' Day on April 18.
Radaker, professor of English at Anderson University, has portrayed Thoreau more than 300 times nationwide since 1991.
Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American author and transcendentalist philosopher. Best known for "Walden" and his essay "Civil Disobedience," his books, articles, journals and poetry total 20 volumes.
The Kaleidoscope festival also offers a diverse assortment of artists, such as hip-hop star Emmanuel Jal performing at 7:30 p.m. April 23, the Taiko Drummers at 7:30 p.m. April 22 and musical and theater performances by SRU students. "Kaleidoscope on Main" will feature bands and local art vendors on April 25.
