Sarah J. Callendar
Sarah J. Callendar, 90, of West Freedom, Parker, Pa., entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior late Sunday evening at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Sligo following a period of declining health.
Born April 5, 1926, in Callensburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Blanche Hunsberger Cotterman.
She was married in May of 1947 to Paul C. Callendar, who preceded her in death.
Sarah was affiliated with the Church of God for most of her adult life. At her passing, she was a member of the Park Hill Church of God and Women of the Church of God at West Freedom. She enjoyed assisting with church dinners or providing “goodies” as needed for church programs.
Sarah was devoted to her God, her family and assisted so many in their times of need.
She enjoyed tending to her gardens, be it floral or vegetable, and was widely recognized for her baking talent, especially orange cookies.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Shirey of Perryville in Parker and Linda Callendar of Sligo; her son, Richard (Karen) Callendar of Bruin; four stepgrandchildren, Brent (Maria) Mayes, Troy Mayes, Leslie Hepler and Tera Mayes; and several step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, “Bill” Shirey; her brothers, David and Eugene (Skippy) Cotterman; and her sisters, Virginia Gessaman, Kathryn Best, Nellie Rumbarger, Clementine Parker and Orphan Cotterman.
CALLENDAR — Friends of Sarah J. Callendar, who died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Park Hill Church of God, Lime Plant Road, West Freedom, Parker, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Eric Mitchell, church pastor, officiating. Interment will take place at the Mt.
