I REMEMBER
By Berdie Slater
On this day we stopped to pray.
That’s how we began each day.
Hearing still your prayer so meek,
As you kissed me on the cheek.
I can still remember.......
For 10 years these
memories cling,
Your resonant voice when you would sing;
Your laughter and your quick arched brow,
Even how you’d ride a cow.
I can still remember.......
Your blondish hair and eyes of blue,
A striking personage in all you’d do;
Your prayers for the game that day,
Before the Lord called you away.
I can still remember.......
My hands entwined with your fingers cold,
Knowing God had called you to His fold.
A still and quiet time to cry,
We hadn’t time to say “Good-bye.”
Humbled, I remember.......
On your marker, I see your face,
Smiling, happy, like a warm embrace.
Knowing you’re with Jesus now,
Singing “Amazing Grace” as before Him bow.
Longing, I remember.......
Greater is the day of one’s death than the day of one’s birth.
Ecclesiastes 7:1a.
Remembering and Rejoicing for your Eternal Life.
