Civil War soldier will get memorial

BRADYS BEND, Armstrong County — A memorial marker for First Lt. Edward Murphy will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, Armstrong Run Road, East Brady.

Murphy was a participant in the funeral escort of President Abraham Lincoln and a recipient of the Medal of Honor.

Visitors should park at the Bradys Bend American Legion Hall on Route 68. Transportation to the cemetery will begin at 12:30 p.m.

HIS Kids planning spring fundraiser

The Spring BASH at HIS Kids Christian School, 650 Saxonburg Road, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the school.

The event will include vendor and crafter tables, basket drawings, 50/50 raffles, a bake sale, food and children’s games.

The Central Blood Bank will accept blood donations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fashion show to benefit care fund

PENN TWP — “Daisy Days,” Concordia Lutheran Ministries’ 10th annual fashion show, will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Butler Country Club, 310 Country Club Road.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Good Samaritan Endowment Fund, Concordia’s charity care fund.

The ticket price will include a style show with Fashions by Phyllis, a full-course hot lunch and a gift, as well as the opportunity to win one of 63 baskets and shop at 17 vendor exhibits for clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry, accessories, doll clothes and more.

CHICORA — Monday is the reservation deadline for the May 23 reunion of all classes of Chicora High School.

EVANS CITY — The Evans City Senior Center will sponsor a wildflower walk at 1 p.m. May 6. To participate in the walk, meet the guide at Hell’s Hollow in McConnells Mill.

Gardener’s market helps mission

SAXONBURG — A “Gardener’s Paradise” will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St.

The community event will include a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon, a quilt display, plants, crafts, baked goods, natural soaps and a Chinese auction.

The event will benefit St. Luke’s youth ministry trip to Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Volunteers needed to tidy up town

SAXONBURG — Volunteers are needed for a clean-up day from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in and around Saxonburg. Volunteers should meet in the parking lot of the South Butler Community Library, 240 W. Main St. Wear comfortable, bright clothing. Vests and gloves will be provided. The rain date is Sunday.

Garlic mustard pull scheduled

The Moraine McConnells Mill Jennings Commission is sponsoring a garlic mustard pull at Hell’s Hollow at McConnells Mill State Park beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Those participating should meet in the parking lot at Hell’s Hollow. Late arrivals should grab a bag or two and go to the trail; bear right toward the falls.
