SR to hold Independence Day Celebration
Slippery Rock’s Third Annual Independence Day Celebration will take place Saturday on South Main Street from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The sidewalks downtown will feature booths by food and beverage vendors, local businesses and artisans and charities and nonprofits.
According to Mayor Jondavid R. Longo, “All 16057 registered businesses are welcome to a free 10-foot by 10-foot spot on Main Street during the festival to conduct commerce and solicitation.”
There also will be children’s activities such as face painting and caricatures.
The festival will conclude with fireworks by Sky King Fireworks of Hillsville launching at 9:45 p.m. from the area of Slippery Rock Area Parks & Recreation.
“We are also slated to enjoy a low-level flyover from the Pennsylvania National Guard,” Longo said.
The mayor said the celebration doubles as a medium through which area nonprofits and charities can raise awareness for their missions.
“This year’s main focus will be on fundraising for next year’s fireworks display and for our 150-foot-tall Grand Old Flag flagpole,” Longo said.
