Marcellus 1-hitter keys Meridian win

Shawn Marcellus allowed just one hit while striking out 14 to lead Meridian to a 9-0 win over Butler City in legion baseball play Tuesday at Highfield Park.

Marcellus also starred at the plate with a single, double, one run scored and three batted in.

Ryan Lynn, Joel Stutz and Adam Longdon each singled twice and drove in a run.

Colter Cavilero singled for Butler City’s lone hit.

Saxonburg 17, Slippery Rock 1

Mike McCarty drove in three runs with a triple in this win on Tuesday.

Garrett Traggiai, Derek McGill and Matt Cornetti each added two hits in the victory.

Logan Hickey got the win, allowing two hits in four innings.

East Butler 6, Saxonburg 4

East Butler put together four consecutive singles with two outs in the top of the eighth inning Sunday night, producing this win over first-place Saxonburg.

Jon Hansotte, Braxton Hildebrand, Colby McClelland and Garet Banner produced the singles. Banner was the winning pitcher, tossing 5.1 innings in relief.

East Butler had taken a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh after two outs. Tyler Markilinski singled and scored on Brandon Hildebrand’s double. Hildebrand scored on an errant throw.

Saxonburg forced extra innings in the bottom of the frame when Addis Crouch doubled and scored on a Logan Hickey single.

Jeremy Frazier struck out seven and allowed no walks in the first six innings for Saxonburg. Nick Guercio did not allow a walk in the final two frames, but took the loss.

East Butler (10-6) hosts West Sunbury in a 6 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Speed-O Field.

Meridian 10, West Sunbury 0; Meridian 9, West Sunbury 4

Meridian swept this twinbill Saturday at Highfield. Sam Gross tossed a no-hitter in the first game, also collecting two singles and an RBI.

Ryan Linn had a triple, single and scored three runs, Joel Stutz had two singles, a double and four RBI, Jace Stutz two doubles and three RBI.

In the nightcap, Justin Ricket had a triple, single, two RBI and two runs scored, Jefferson Ford a triple and RBI, Jace Stutz a single and two RBI, Lynn a single, two runs and an RBI.

Lake Pry had four singles and an RBI for West Sunbury with Zack Jewart getting a double, single and RBI.

Center Township 13, West Sunbury 12

Tyler Kline had the game-winning hit in this eight-inning affair. Jason Gray had two singles and four RBI for CT. Dane Milich added a triple, single, two RBI and three runs scored while Brandon Wright had two singles.

Jake Jewart paced West Sunbury with a double, single, four RBI and three runs scored. Clarence Nagy scored four runs and Derek Brown singled and doubled, scoring twice.

Center Township 17, Slippery Rock 8

Caleb Baxter paced CT with a triple, two singles, four runs and three RBI. Ben Richards added a double, single, two runs and four RBI, Shane Minick a double, single, three runs and two RBI, Jordan Levin two singles.

Colin Hyatt had two doubles for Slippery Rock.
