Melvin "Mel" A. Crotzer, 93, of Butler died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of the late Floyd Lincoln Crotzer and Lottie Heitzenrater Crotzer.

Mr. Crotzer graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1935.

He worked in the tractor repair department at Butler's Armco Steel plant, retiring in 1979 after 43 years.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Crotzer enjoyed hunting and watching and listening to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was a member of the Valencia United Methodist Church in Valencia.

Mr. Crotzer is survived by one son, Richard and his wife, Ruth, Crotzer of Butler; three daughters, Judith and her husband, Stephen, Pavlosky of Lenox, Mass., Frances and her husband, David, Michael of Butler and Barbara Rikal of Butler; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Mr. Crotzer was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Jane (Fetterman) Crotzer, who passed away April 5, 1996. He also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

<B>CROTZER</B> — Friends of Melvin "Mel" A. Crotzer, who died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North S., Butler. Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bob Martin of Valencia United Methodist Church officiating.
