Florence W. Horne

Florence W. Horne, 94, of Butler passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday at her home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1921, in Butler to the late John Thomas Heaton and Bertha E. (Mohr) Heaton.

Mrs. Horne was a homemaker and a lifelong member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Maqueda Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 421, and volunteered for Butler Meals on Wheels.

In her lifetime, Florence loved golfing, reading, crocheting and playing the organ. She also shared her husband's love of woodcarving. They attended many carving shows and competitions together. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her sense of humor, loving spirit and graciousness will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Florence is survived by two daughters, Barbara Snider and her husband, Robert, of Butler and Jane Murphy and her husband, Craig, of Bluffton, S.C.; two sons, Dr. Thomas F. Horne and his wife, Paula, of North Augusta, S.C., and William G. Horne and his wife, Marcie, of Butler; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Horne, who passed away Feb. 27, 2008; her daughter-in-law, Suzy Horne; and one stepgrandson.

HORNE — Friends of Florence W. Horne, who died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 E.
