Man barely escapes mobile home fire
FAIRVIEW TWP — A man did not even have time to put on a shirt before fleeing his mobile home that caught fire early this morning.
But before his narrow escape, Rod Johnson threw out of the trailer a space heater that apparently caused the fire, authorities said.
The fire about 12:20 a.m. destroyed the small mobile home in the 100 block of Fairview Road. No one was hurt.
Damage to the home and contents was estimated at $50,000. The property was not insured, said Chuck Barnes, assistant chief with the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department.
He is staying with his parents, who live nearby.
Firefighters remained at the scene for more than two hours.
The investigation continues, said Chuck Barnes, assistant chief with the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department.
