Donald Reynolds “Coach” Dombart

Donald Reynolds “Coach” Dombart, 83, of Butler passed away Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Jan. 22, 1932, in Pittsburgh to the late Clifford Dombart and Helen (Levis) Dombart.

Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Philippines.

He was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to earn a letter of equivalency for a master's degree from Clarion State College.

He was a teacher at the Butler Senior High School and varsity baseball coach until his retirement in 1986. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Known by many as “Coach” or “Ducky,” Don coached Butler High Baseball, referred football and basketball and served as the football team equipment manager. Don entered into the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and was honored as a Hometown Hero in 2009.

He devoted himself to building community both in Butler and in Fort Pierce, Fla., through his commitment and dedication to his friends in golf leagues, in the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club and in Cardiac Rehab.

Throughout his life, Don was passionately interested in his family, baseball, American history, golf and photography.

Don is survived by one son, Scott Dombart and his wife, Jane, of Cincinnati, Ohio; three daughters, Kimberly Greco and her husband, Joe, of Prospect, Lori Kress of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jill Fulkerson of Nampa, Idaho; one stepson, Kevin Smith of Beaver; one stepdaughter, Colleen Smith and her husband, Kevin Neigh, of Butler; nine grandchildren, Brian Sowa, Jennifer Bindernagel, Katie Harry, Tadd Dombart, Caitlin Dombart, Troy Dombart, Randi Goit, Nicholas Fulkerson and Mollee Fulkerson; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel Sowa, Margaret Sowa, Andrew Harry, Mya Harry, Miles Bindernagel and Lilly May Fulkerson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia M. Dombart, who he married Aug. 21, 1978, and who passed away Sept. 25, 2015.

DOMBART — Friends of Donald Reynolds “Coach” Dombart, who died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Eric Park, pastor, and the Rev. Tim Goodman, pastor, officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation, 110 Campus Lane, Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
