The Rodfathers of Butler will present its 15th annual Cruise-A-Palooza from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Classic cars and hot rods will line the street, and there will be free entertainment and food vendors all day.

"We usually get about 40,000 people and about 2,000 cars," said Dave Landis, vice president of the Rodfathers.

Presenters come to the show from all around the northeastern United States.

"We get calls from Maryland, Michigan, Ohio and New York. After 15 years, we have a pretty good reputation for putting on a good time," Landis said.

The entertainment kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with the Chicora-based band Nervous Energy, which will play until 1:30 p.m. then play a second set from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

"They play it all. What we're looking for is '50s, '60s and maybe some '70s music," Landis said.

In addition to the band, five different DJs will set up along Main Street, each playing hits from the '50s and '60s. A church youth group band will play throughout the day in front of 312 N. Main St., and a barbershop quartet will make its melodies mobile, walking up and down Main Street.

Mike Frazer from 94.5 3WS will be at the festival from noon until 5 p.m.

"People just keep calling every few hours to see if they can participate in some way," said John Malinski, activities director for the Rodfathers.

Main Street will be closed from Wayne Street to Penn Street for the event, but most side streets will be available for parking.

There will be a 50/50 raffle drawing at 6 p.m. at the courthouse, with the proceeds going to the Diabetes Association

Car show winners are eligible for four different giveaway drawings, one of $500 and three of $100, but must be present to win.

"Everybody likes to come down and reminisce," Landis said.

"The people involved with cars now are getting Mazdas or Nissans and Hondas. They have no idea what a muscle car was back then. That's just what their generation is being brought up on, though."

Newer vehicles will make their mark, too, Landis said, in the form of three traditional drag racers and a Funny Car.

The Rodfathers' 35 members put on about 14 car cruises each year, but Cruise-A-Palooza is their main event.

During the car cruise, the Butler County Historical Society will open the Butler County Heritage Center on West New Castle Street, the Little Red School House on East Jefferson Street and the Lowrie-Shaw House on West Diamond Street.

The center will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for tours. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for ages 5 to 17, and free for children under 5 and historical society members.

The school house, built in 1838 as Butler County's first public school, will be open for tours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $1 per person and free for children under 5.

The Lowrie-Shaw House will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for docent-guided tours. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for ages 5 to 17 and free for children under 5.
