Joan Martha Bresnehan

Joan Martha Bresnehan, 86, of Chicora passed away Wednesday in Allegheny Kiski Hospital, Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, after a brief illness.

She was born Friday, Aug. 21, 1931, in Oakland Township, and was the daughter of the late Paul and Anna McGinley Weiland.

Joan attended Butler High School. She was a nurse's aid at the McGinley Nursing Home in Chicora.

She was married on Jan. 25, 1950, to John M. Bresnehan, who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2010.

Joan and her husband owned and operated a family ice cream business in Chicora for over 35 years.

She was a life-long member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and a member of the choir.

She was an avid golfer and a member of Hiland Women's Golf League. She also was a member of the East Butler Fire Hall bowling league and a big Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

She enjoyed gardening, crafting and playing cards with her card club and family. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by a daughter, Theresa Bresnehan Benedetto of Franklin; four sons, Gale Bresnehan of Norristown, Pa., Dennis (Brenda) Bresnehan of Fenelton, Richard (Mary Lou) Bresnehan of Chicora, and Stephen (April) Bresnehan of Meridian; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Bresnehan of Butler; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Bresnehan, Eric and Jenna Bresnehan, Michael and Samantha Bresnehan, Adam and Kiley Bresnehan, Brian Bresnehan, Madison and Caleb Bresnehan, Mark, Michael, Brittany and John Benedetto; and her two great-grandchildren, Dominic Benedetto and Noelle Bresnehan.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John E. Bresnehan, who died in 2007; a brother, John Weiland; and her sister, Alene Parker.

BRESNEHAN — Friends of Joan M. Bresnehan, who died Wednesday, April 11, 2018, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, North Oakland, Chicora, with the Rev.
