Harsh cold to settle over county this weekend

It’s going to be cold, cold, cold this weekend.

The frigid temperatures started off this morning, with a 0 degree reading at 6 a.m. at the Butler County Airport. There was a wind chill of 11 degrees below zero, said Lee Hendricks, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh

It just will get worse this weekend, with temperatures projected to hit 4 degrees below zero Saturday night with a wind chill up to 23 degrees below zero.

The high is expected to be about 23.

The high on Sunday only will be 3 degrees with wind chills up to 26 degrees below zero. Hendricks said the temperatures that night is projected to drop to 10 degrees below zero with wind chills up to 20 degrees below zero.

The weather service has a wind chill watch in effect from Saturday night to Sunday morning for the county.

Additionally, 1 to 3 inches of snow is predicted to fall during the day Saturday. Hendricks said the snow should be dry snow, so blowing and drifting on roads is expected to happen.

On Monday temperatures will edge up a bit with a high of about 10 to 15 degrees, Hendricks said.
