Conrad Kapcewicz

Conrad M. Kapcewicz, 88, formerly of Moravia Street, New Castle, passed away Saturday afternoon at the Haven Convalescent Home.

Mr. Kapcewicz was born April 13, 1928, in New Castle. He was the son of the late Bruno and Cora Evertoski Kapcewicz.

He was married to the former Eleanor T. Kornrumpf. They were married for 67 years. She survives her husband.

Conrad was Roman Catholic and attended the Mary Mother of Hope Parish. He was an usher for many years at the Mary Mother of Hope Parish. Mr. Kapcewicz was a member of the Holy Name Society at the former SS. Phillip and James Church, where he received the Marion Award from the former Bishop Donald Wuerl.

Conrad served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He enlisted Nov. 29, 1948. Mr. Kapcewicz earned the rank of airman third-class and was honorably discharged May 11, 1953.

Conrad retired after 28 years of service as a furnace operator at the Blair Steel Co. He worked as a cement finisher and was a member of the Local Union 19 for 12 years. Mr. Kapcewicz also was self-employed as the owner of Conrad's Precision Sharpening for over 20 years.

He was a member of the fraternal order of Eagles Lodge 455 and the South New Castle Borough Fire Department, where he served as chief for 10 years.

Mr. Kapcewicz served with Boy Scouts Troop 35 for 15 years and was an aquatic instructor for the YMCA and Red Cross for 10 years. He enjoyed wood working, flying model airplanes, raising flowers and gardening. Conrad also made homemade wine, which he enjoyed sharing with his friends and family.

In addition to his wife Eleanor, he is survived by his daughter, Deborah R. (David) Myer of New Castle; and his two beloved dogs, Rocky and Randy.

Mr. Kapcewicz was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Hedwig (Michael) Dachko, Genevieve (John) Cunningham and Bernice (Connie) Sokevitz.

KAPCEWICZ — Calling hours for Conrad M. Kapcewicz, who died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St., New Castle.A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for the Mary Mother of Hope Parish, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Rev. Frank D. Almade, pastor of Mary Mother of Hope Parish, will officiate.The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct a military service at the cemetery. A rite of committal and burial will be at the SS.
