Susan “Sue” Lynn (Jones) Kirkland

Susan “Sue” Lynn (Jones) Kirkland

Susan “Sue” Lynn (Jones) Kirkland, 56, of Cranberry Township, beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, peacefully joined our Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday.

She was a devoted wife of 30 years to her husband, Tim Kirkland; a nurturing, loving mother to her daughter, Shelby Kirkland; and was well-known and cherished by many.

Life began for Susan on Nov. 7, 1961, in Indianapolis, Ind., where she was one of three children of Jane and JD Jones. She had a wonderful childhood with her older brother, Keith, and younger sister, Sandy, spent in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Bloomingdale, Ohio.

A graduate of Wintersville High School and Jefferson Technical College, Sue stayed close to home as a young adult before moving to Richmond, Va. and marrying her husband, Tim, of Wintersville, Ohio in 1988. Shortly after, they returned to the Pittsburgh area and she gave birth to their daughter, Shelby, in 1991.

Sue was known by many in the Cranberry community through involvement in Shelby's cheerleading squads and softball teams. Sue's greatest joy was supporting Shelby in her various endeavors and goals and made many friends in doing so.

Sue enjoyed sitting outside in the sun, whether it was with her toes in the water at the beach, simply reading a book, or watching Shelby play ball. She was a country music fan and took pleasure in going to concerts with Shelby.

Her family, both immediate and extended, was very important to her and she loved spending time together during family reunion vacations. She was blessed with many great friendships, including those of her neighbors, Amy and Jay D'Ambrosio and their family, and June and Dan Resetarits, and their family. She also enjoyed many special friendships made through her long-term employment at the Magisterial District Court of Cranberry Township and Kirkland's.

Sue always had a great attitude with such a positive outlook on life. Her final days were spent smiling, surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Tim, and her daughter, Shelby, both of Cranberry Township; her parents, Jane and JD Jones of Bloomingdale, Ohio; her sister, Sandy Jones Morris of Knoxville, Tenn; her brother, Keith (Nancy) Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother-in-law, Judy Kirkland of Richmond, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Debbie (Bob) Grimes of Richmond, Ohio; her niece, Katie Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; her nephews, John Jones of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ian Morris of Knoxville, Tenn.; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edna and Arlin Evans, Louise and William Maack, and John M. Jones; her father-in-law, Earl Kirkland; and her brother-in-law, Earl Kirkland Jr.

A special thank you to all who supported Susan and family throughout her courageous battle with brain cancer.
