Candidates rise above ugliness of politics

We will admit to a pet peeve concerning all political signs, which are basically legalized littering.

Sometimes, the signs are safety hazards when the candidates or their supporters absent-mindedly place them where they partially block the view at intersections, and also clutter the open areas that civic groups have worked hard to beautify.

So, we are always looking to see which candidates are quick and efficient about taking down the cheap cardboard placards.

After the recent primary, most were really good about the post-election removals. But after a couple of days we started to wonder about successful judge candidate Joe Kubit’s signs, which were not disappearing very quickly.

But what a pleasant surprise when the “thank-you” notes were added to them. And although this writer has never met Mr. Kubit, his quiet but sincere gesture spoke volumes for his candidacy and his election committee. Our congratulations to him or to whomever on his campaign committee came up with this concept.

While other candidates in the past have done nothing but try to tear down their opponents as the only way to make themselves look good, Mr. Kubit and District Attorney Richard Goldinger ran clean and positive campaigns focused on their own strengths, and not mud-slinging. Both should be proud.

Only one could win, but both were classy throughout the campaign. Hopefully, we will see much more of this style of campaigning, instead of attack antics that had become so prevalent.

Losers can always find someone else to blame rather than themselves or the bad, questionable campaigns they run.

And we ask the people who placed any of the other signs for the election to please remove them now. They are eyesores and will probably cost you votes as the public will see your ego is bigger than your true desire to serve the public.

Thank you to those two judge candidates who rose above the ugliness of 21st century politics.
