WEXFORD — A-C Valley graduate and Westminster College senior Nate Silvis was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for his efforts from March 26-April 1.
Silvis fired a 78 to win the Thiel Invitational Saturday. Silvis won a one-hole playoff to help Westminster win the team title with a 324.
ERIE — Seneca Valley graduate and Penn State Behrend sophomore outside hitter Nate Steele was named to the second team All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tuesday.Steele registered 141 kills and added 52 digs and 22 blocks in 18 matches this season.Steele had double-digit kills in five matches.
SARVER — Three FCA GEMS cheerleading teams located in Sarver received bids to the All-Star Cheerleading Worlds, which will be held in Orlando, Fla., April 27-29.The competitions will be televised on ESPNU and ESPN2 May 15.FCA sent 12 teams to the All-Gym Competition at the Midwest Classic in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend and came home with nine championships.Three of those teams, the Diamonds, Rubies and Onyx, got bids to the world competition.Forty countries will be represented at the worlds.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Doctors amputated the foot of a man shot during raucous street celebrations in Lexington after Kentucky won the NCAA basketball championship and police said Tuesday they were trying to find the shooting suspect.Harold Calloway, 31, remained hospitalized Tuesday, police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said. Calloway was shot about 2 a.m. EDT as Kentucky fans were celebrating Kentucky's 67-59 victory over Kansas on Monday night.The man was shot in the foot, which had to be amputated because of the extent of the injuries, police told the Lexington Herald-Leader.
