Woman, 72, has wish granted
Christmas has come early for one member of the Butler community.
The Butler branch of the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted its first wish to Erma Perry, 72.
Perry is the proud new owner of a washer and dryer, which were delivered Tuesday.
Perry was a longtime volunteer at the Butler Humane Society.
“I can't sit still,” she said as workers installed her new washer and dryer. “I never expected anything like that.”
Perry's old appliances were about 20 years old, and the drum had rusted out of her old washer.
“My daughter does the wash,” Perry said about her daughter, Raylene.
Perry also lives with her granddaughter, Shelby.
Perry's wish was the 1,966 wish granted by the Twilight Wish Foundation, which was founded in 2003 in Bucks County.
Jean Bowen, a program specialist at the Center for Community Resources, along with some other members, started the Butler Branch of the Twilight Wish Foundation to help seniors in the area.
“It was a great thing,” Bowen said. “I loved granting the wish.”
According to Bowen, the wish was made possible by the Nonprofit Development Corporation, an affiliate of the Center for Community Resources, with the help of Lowes.
Recipients of a wish must be at or below 200 percent of the poverty level and must be at least 68 years old or living in a nursing home.
