Billionaire space trip was wasteful, arrogant

The worst and most arrogant answer someone can ever give for why they did something extravagant would be “because I can.”

Why do you own such a big home when there are only two of you? Why do you have five cars when it’s just you and your spouse? Why do you leave all the lights on inside and outside your home when no one is there or they are asleep?

Each of those questions can have an almost acceptable answer, or you can be an arrogant jerk and simply state “because I can.”

Why are billionaires spending tens of millions of dollars to fly with their competing egotistical brethren to spend a few minutes in what they have proclaimed as outer space? Perhaps they anticipate being so inspired by a few seconds of weightlessness that they will discover a cure for cancer or a formula for world peace.

Maybe the father of the 18-year-old who purchased a seat for a rumored $28 million has reason to believe the child will become a world leader or even a better citizen if daddy shows how much he loves him by spending a few more dollars on him. Surely, the teenager isn’t spoiled at this point.

The truth is that money means absolutely nothing to Richard Branson or Jeff Bezos. This little competition of who can spend the most for no gain whatsoever is a ridiculous ploy to draw attention to themselves.

What type of fool would waste this sum of money, and then have nothing he can say was actually a positive result from it? A rich, arrogant, wasteful person with only one explanation for why he has done it. That type of fool is one who can say, “because I can.”
