FAIRFIELD Police are searching for a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a Pennsylvania Game Commission officer who was investigating reports of illegal hunting activity before he was killed.

The game commission says 31-year-old Wildlife Conservation Officer David Grove was shot and killed Thursday night in Freedom Township, Adams County. Grove had been investigating reports of nighttime shooting and possible poaching.

State police are seeking a man for questioning. They say 27-year-old Christopher Lynn Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous. Authorities say he may also be wounded.

Game commission spokesman Jerry Feaser declined to discuss details of what Grove was investigating at the time he was killed.

Feaser says a game commission officer hasn’t been slain in the line of duty since 1915.
