Richard Sloan

Richard Sloan

Richard Sloan, 81, of Eau Claire passed away late Saturday evening at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Boyers on Oct. 22, 1934, he was the son of the late Donald Ray and Genevieve (Jane) Zimmerman Sloan.

Richard retired after 35 years with Armco Steel in Butler.

He proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

One of his true joys in life was to have his grandchildren over to work on the farm and around the house. When the work was completed, there was always a fishing trip or a day of hunting in the fall that followed. This instilled a work ethic and a love for the outdoors that still thrives in them today.

Richard also was a great storyteller. He had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Eau Claire area and the Sloan family. Richard greatly enjoyed sharing these stories with everyone, especially the younger generation of the family.

In Richard's later years, he enjoyed sitting on the back porch with his favorite dog and watching the cardinals feed at the feeders.

Richard is survived by four children, Mark (Sherri) Sloan of West Sunbury, Cynthia Sloan of Lyndora, Sheila (Jeffery) Passauer of Eau Claire, and Steve Wilkins of Kennerdale; seven grandchildren, Mathew, Zackary, and Amanda Sloan, Keith Buckley II and Crystal-Buckley (Denny) Ryan, Adriana Lingenfelter and Jonathon Passauer; four great-grandchildren, Colton Atwell, Natalie Vlassich, and Zoey and Haylee Ryan; and two brothers, Donald Ray (Dorothy) Sloan and Robert (Susan) Sloan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edward, Russel, Dennis, and Harry Sloan.
