Virginia M. Roland Gilbert
Virginia M. Roland Gilbert, 91, of 476 Switzer Road, Rimersburg, died peacefully at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Clarion Hospital surrounded by her family.
Born at home in Rimersburg, Sept. 24, 1919, with her twin sister, Verdie, she was a daughter of Jacob E. and Edith McMillen Flick.
Virginia graduated from Union High School in 1938 and graduated in 1983 from the Clarion County Vo-Tech nurse's aide program at the age of 70.
She was married Aug. 17, 1940, to Joseph Roland, who died Feb. 28, 1983. She then married Chet Gilbert on March 24, 1991, and he died Dec. 18, 2008.
Virginia was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper, a machine operator in Saltsburg and last as a nurse's aide.
She was a member of the Grace Community Presbyterian Church in Lower Burrell, where she served as a lay person and played the piano. She also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution Massy Harbison-Fort Hand Chapter, and she enjoyed attending the Rimersburg Senior Center.
Virginia was active all her life, was a loving wife and mother, was compassionate and faithful and an inspiration to her family, church and all who knew her.
She is survived by four daughters, Jonette Roland and Cheryl Rhoades, both of Rimersburg, Charlene Glover and her husband, Ron, of Alexandria, Va., and Dianna “Dee” Grady and her husband, Carl, of Fombell; two sons, Jacob Roland and his wife, Diane, of Rockledge, Fla., and the Rev. Joel Roland and his wife, Ruth, of Ford Cliff; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Verdie Miller of East Lake, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Roland Westcott of North Carolina; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Roland in 2003; a sister, Ethel Boyles; and a brother, Jesse Flick.
<B>GILBERT</B> — The family of Virginia M. Roland Gilbert, who died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Monday at the <B>Varner Funeral Home </B>of Rimersburg. The Rev. Kenneth Foust, pastor of the Grace Community Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Rimersburg Cemetery.
