Upcoming security class geared to those in hospitality industry
CRANBERRY TWP — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and area law enforcement are holding a class to help hotel staff identify risks and institute protective measures at their hotels.
A three-hour session called Safe and Secure Hospitality on Nov. 13 is aimed at those who work at hotels, campgrounds and bed and breakfast businesses.
The session will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn, 2000 Garden View Lane, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The presentation will cover such topics as the risks of cyber-based extortion, human trafficking, active shooters and bomb-making threats.
Jeffrey Schueler, township director of public safety, said the presentation will discuss warning signs, what to look for and what to report to the authorities.
Presenters at the program will be DHS protective security adviser Bob Winters, Cranberry Township Police Chief Kevin Meyer, Cranberry Township Police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino and Butler County 911 director Steve Bicehouse.
The Cranberry Township Business Hub and Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau are co-hosting the event.
Schueler said if there is a disaster, the township will work with the hotels to create disaster plans to be able to take care of their guests and continue operations.
