Center Avenue school get low state ranking
Center Avenue Elementary School is one of the lowest-achieving elementary schools statewide, according to a list released Wednesday by the state Department of Education. The school is in the Butler School District.
Its rank in the bottom 15 percent of elementary schools statewide means its 209 students can apply for a state-funded scholarship to attend a different school, either private or public.
The low ranking is based on students’ combined math and reading scores from the 2010-11 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests, called the PSSAs.
However, students at Center Avenue made Annual Yearly Progress goals of the PSSA tests.
No other Butler County school is on the state lowest-achieving list.
Butler Superintendent Mike Strutt could not be reached this morning for comment.
