New Buffalo Township supervisor appointed

BUFFALO TWP — The owner of a construction firm and two shopping centers is the newest township supervisor.

Ron Zampogna Jr., 37, is president of Zampogna Construction and the owner of the Yellow Jacket Square and Shoppes at Bear Creek shopping centers.

“I definitely have a vested interest in the community,” he told the supervisors before they unanimously appointed him Wednesday.

Supervisor John Haven, board president, said in an interview that Zampogna’s experience as a developer will benefit the township.

“I think he’s going to be an asset,” Haven said.

Supervisor Gary Risch, who made the motion to appoint Zampogna, agreed.

Risch said Zampogna will fill the void left by Dan Przybylek, who worked with developers in encouraging commercial growth in the township.

James Lee, 55, was the only other applicant for the vacant seat.

Przybylek announced his resignation at the March 28 meeting, and the board accepted it on April 11.
