Butler Twp. residents oppose sports complex
BUTLER TWP — It was standing room only Monday night at the township’s commissioner’s meeting.
It was an emotion filled meeting with most of those in attendance opposing an indoor sports complex proposed by former major league pitcher Matt Clement, a township native, and his business partner.
The air inflated building would to be built on 10 acres on Butler Road owned by the Highfield Community Association.
Ken Schultz of Abner Drive gave an impassioned speech about how the complex will ruin the residential neighborhood, causing noise and lighting problems, as well as safety problems for Highfield residents who walk, jog and ride bikes in the neighborhood.
No one representing the sports complex spoke at the meeting.
Rebecca Falvo, the township’s solicitor, told the crowd that the sports complex matter is in front of the township zoning board, which has yet to decide on a variance for the 65-foot high inflated building.
The zoning board will meet at the township building at 6:30 p.m. April 11 to reveal its ruling. It is a public meeting.
