Esther E. Hogg Burtner
Esther E. (Hogg) Burtner, 87, of Butler passed away at 1 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.
She was born May 19, 1925, in Slippery Rock to the late Calvin Hogg and Dorothy Voorse Hogg.
Mrs. Burtner graduated from Slippery Rock High School and went on to earn her RN degree at the Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1947.
She worked as a registered nurse at Butler Memorial Hospital. Then in her later years, she worked as a nurse at the Sunnycrest Nursing Home in Saxonburg, now known as Saxony Health Care. She retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Butler Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. She was a member of the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, where she was the church organist for more than 60 years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, baking and her family.
Mrs. Burtner is survived by four sons and their wives, David V. Burtner and Durfee, Darell E. Burtner and Paula, Duane W. Burtner and Mary and Darwin Burtner and Angela; 12 grandchildren, Brett Burtner and Michelle, Noah Burtner and Sara, Levi Burtner, Ellie Burtner, Ashley Burtner, Alicia Burtner, Ben Burtner and Tracy, Seth Burtner and Lindsey, Travis Burtner, Todd Burtner and fiancee Hope, Tiffany Wilson and John and Garrett Greathouse and fiancee Stephanie; eight great-grandchildren, Gavin, Madelyn, Kamryn, Jackson, Ethan, Ian, Camilla and Vance; three sisters, Louise Gindler, Lois Monroe and Naomi Emmons; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Wesley Burtner, who she married Jan. 2, 1948, and who passed away March 18, 2008; and two brothers, Tedd and Bob Hogg.
BURTNER — Friends of Esther E. (Hogg) Burtner, who passed away Monday Feb. 18, 2013, will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Rockdale Road, Butler, with Pastor Kurt Knobel, officiating.
