Cover crop, soil health day scheduled Sept. 28

The Pennsylvania No-till Alliance and Bill Cannon will host a cover crop/soil health field day at his farm in Hermitage from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 28.

The event will feature Joel Hunter speaking on crop management and improving your farm’s soil health.

Lucas Criswell will speak on planting green and minimizing slug impacts. Now is the time to begin planning for next year’s slug battles.

Ryan Graham will speak on no-tilling in Western Pennsylvania.

The event also will feature cover crop plots and farmer to farmer discussion focusing on the successes and challenges individuals face as they improve their farms’ soil health.

To register, contact the Mercer County Conservation District at 724-662-2242 by Friday. The cost to register is $10 and includes lunch.

The Cannon farm is at 4766 Lamor Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
