Cranberry’s York scores 2 wins

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Horse owner/trainer Mitchell York of Cranberry Township scored a pair of victories last week during harness racing action at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

York won Thursday with Annapolis Hanover, a pacing colt. He won Saturday with Sweet And Feisty, which claimed a $66,915 Pennsylvania Sires Stake Division.

Also Saturday, driver Shawn Johnston of Evans City won a $7,500 Conditioned Trot with Star Caviar.

Also Wednesday, Curry Hanover — driven by Brady Brown of Slippery Rock, trained by Steve Schoeffel of Evans City, owned by Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel of Evans City — won a $9,000 Conditioned Trot. James Reuther and Seth Dowling also own the horse.

SRU’s Hamilton wins major award

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University catcher Connor Hamilton was recently named the 2022 CoSIDA Division II Baseball Academic All-America Team Member of the Year.

Hamilton was also named first team Academic All-America. He recently graduated with a degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering with a 3.92 grade point average. He hit .400 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI this season, breaking SRU’s single-season home run record that stood for 24 years.

GCC’s Vittone earns All-ECAC honors

GROVE CITY — Seven Fields resident and Eden Christian graduate Luke Vittone, a freshman second baseman at Grove City College, has been named first real All-ECAC.

Vittone hit .309 with four homers and 25 RBI this season. Grove City’s baseball team finished 28-14 this season, matching the program’s single-season win record.
