HARMONY — A quick response by firefighters on Wednesday afternoon prevented more damage to a home on First Street.

Harmony Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mark Nanna said flames were visible in the kitchen at 836 First St., which is across from the Harmonist Cemetery on Route 68.

Firefighters quickly knocked the flames down and began “overhauling” the home, disassembling items and appliances to ensure no fire was inside. Large fans were set up to remove smoke from the home.

Nanna said there was minimal damage to the two-story Cape Cod home, which included some fire damage on the first floor and smoke and water damage to the second floor.

No one was home when the fire broke out. The Butler County 911 Center received a call from a passing motorist, who said smoke was billowing from the home’s windows.

Nanna is acquainted with the homeowner, who he did not identify, and he was attempting to reach the family about 3 p.m.

In addition to Harmony, firefighters from Zelienople and Evans City fire companies responded.

No cause for the fire has been determined.
