Storms cause electrical outages
Storms knocked down utility wires and caused flooding and electrical outages across Butler County since Tuesday evening.
Butler County Emergency Services reports 120 storm-related 911 calls from 5:37 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. today.
Steve Bicehouse, director of county emergency services, said fire departments were kept busy.
“It was a long evening for a lot of people,” he said.
While roads were shut down due to fallen trees, none were closed because of flooding.
During the heavy rain, one lane of Route 8 in Middlesex Township wasn’t passable.
“It wasn’t completely flooded,” Bicehouse said.
He said the storms set off automatic fire alarms in multiple buildings.
Volunteer firefighters did respond to two structure fires.
The West Sunbury and Slippery Rock fire departments answered a 6:53 p.m. 911 call for a fire at 101 Kelly Road in Clay Township.
According to a 911 report, the fire was extinguished before crews arrived. They cleared the scene by 8:30 p.m.
The Cranberry Volunteer Fire Company responded to a 1:21 a.m. 911 call today for a shed fire off Treesdale Drive. Crews cleared the scene at 2:18 a.m.
