MEADVILLE — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is draining more water from Tamarack Lake in northwestern Pennsylvania because of additional concerns about problems with its earthen dams.

Five feet of water was drained from the lake in November, when the problems were first detected. Officials are draining another 5 feet of water during the next week because commission officials now believe it will take four to five years to fix the dam problems and millions of dollars.

The lake is normally 15 feet at its deepest point, but will have only 3 to 5 feet of water in its deepest areas and much of the 562-acre basin will be dry or muddy.

Officials say there’s no danger of a dam collapse, but thousands of fish will die.
