Postcards target political signsResidents in one of Pittsburgh’s more upscale neighborhoods have been receiving unsigned postcards asking them to remove campaign signs from their yards.People in the Murdoch Farms section of Squirrel Hill have received the cards urging them to talk to their neighbors or use social media to talk politics and take down signs “distracting from our beautiful neighborhood.”Steve Schwartz isn’t happy about receiving the card, so he enlarged it and put it in his yard alongside his political signs supporting Hillary Clinton and other Democrats. He says he wanted people who might not have gotten a card that “this attitude is out there.”Other neighbors say they’re surprised by the anonymous postcards and don’t plan to remove signs.
Gate crashing case again set for courtA man accused of ramming his dump truck through the security gate at the FBI building in Pittsburgh is again scheduled for a preliminary hearing in City Court.Four previous hearings have been postponed for 48-year-old Thomas Richard Ross, of New Waterford, Ohio. He also faces federal charges in the July 26 incident, but a court date on those charges hasn’t been set.Online court records didn’t list an attorney for Ross in advance of Wednesday’s scheduled hearing.Ross is accused of running eight red lights and driving recklessly before being stopped by police near the FBI building. Authorities say Ross claimed to have a bomb before speeding off and through the gate. No bomb was found and nobody else was hurt.
