GREENSBURG — A former Western Pennsylvania physician who lost his license in an alleged sex-for-pills scheme in 2002 is set to plead guilty to attempting to possess explicit cell phone pictures of a 15-year-old girl earlier this year.
The defense attorney for 60-year-old Robert Franzino says he’ll plead guilty before a federal judge in Pittsburgh today, provided the judge approves a plea deal calling for a 6-and-a-half-year prison sentence.
Franzino was arrested by state authorities in March for allegedly setting up a sexual encounter with the 15-year-old girl.
The feds took over the case in May and indicted him on a charge of enticing the girl into an underage sexual relationship, which carried 10 years to life in prison.
Defense attorney Stanton Levenson says Franzino will plead guilty to a lesser related charge.

UNIONTOWN — Authorities say a woman looking out a window was killed when she was apparently hit by a stray bullet.
Jaqualine Carey, 32, of Uniontown was visiting her sister’s residence. Witnesses said a noise outside prompted Carey to look out the window at about 10 p.m. Friday, but as she lifted the window curtain, a shot hit her in the upper left chest area.
Uniontown police sent to the area after a report of gunshots found her leaned back against kitchen cabinets on the floor. She was pronounced dead at Uniontown hospital. About six other people in the home were uninjured.
Lt. Tom Kolencik said investigators don’t think Carey was specifically targeted. Two people were questioned but no arrests were immediately reported.
