PITTSBURGH — The final section of the roof of Pittsburgh's old igloo-shaped Civic Arena, the former home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been demolished.
Demolition crews on Saturday finally brought down the last section of the domed roof, which had given them problems for weeks.
The building, which for a time was called Mellon Arena, is across the street from the Penguins' new arena, Consol Energy Center.
NEW ORLEANS — Kentucky star Anthony Davis has won the Naismith Trophy for men's college player of the year.Davis is the first player from Kentucky to win the award and the second freshman, joining Texas' Kevin Durant in 2007. He is the first Naismith Trophy winner from the SEC since LSU's Pete Maravich.
DENVER — Brittney Griner, the 6-foot-8 junior phenom, has led Baylor to a perfect record and the Lady Bears stand two wins away from becoming the first team in NCAA history to win 40 games in a season. Now she is The Associated Press player of the year. Her coach Kim Mulkey completed a Baylor sweep of the awards, being selected coach of the year.
