Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies during the weekend that spanned two counties and were likely committed by the same suspect.

Scott Rick, an officer with the Northern Regional Police Department in Allegheny County, said he thinks the same suspect committed similar robberies during the weekend with a small, black, semi-automatic handgun.

The first robbery occurred Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. when the suspect entered a Dollar General in Fairview Township.

During that encounter, Rick said, the suspect “either racked a round or pulled back the hammer to show the victims he meant business” before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

Rick said the suspect, described as “soft spoken,” said thank you and apologized when he ran out of the store.

The next night around 10 p.m., an almost identical encounter took place at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Pine Township near the Butler County border. The suspect got away with money and cigarettes.

According to police, the suspect again either “racked the slide or pulled the hammer back” on the weapon. The suspect was last seen running on foot in the direction of Mars borough.

After analyzing video surveillance, police described the suspect as a 5-foot, 4-inch white male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with plaid black and white designs. He also wore a black ski mask, tan cargo pants and white tennis shoes.
