BlueSox ready to play 18 home games
The Butler BlueSox season is shaping up to provide baseball enthusiasts with another summer of high-quality baseball at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
The Butler Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority set the team's schedule at its Monday night meeting.
The BlueSox, who will now play in the Tri-State Summer Collegiate League, will play 18 home games including three doubleheaders at the field, said stadium director Dean Selfridge.
The first game, which will be against the league's team from DuBois, will be played May 29.
The last game will be July 14.
Fifteen days of BlueSox baseball will be played at Michelle Krill Field, Selfridge said.
NexTier Bank will provide a $5,000 sponsorship, and the company's logo will appear on a patch on the players' jerseys.
The Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau will provide a $2,000 sponsorship and be named on the back of the players' hats.
Once complete, the authority's website, www.historicpullmanpark.com, will list the times and dates of all home games, said authority board member Bob Graham.
Selfridge said a roster of 20 to 25 players, each of whom will pay $450 to join the team, is in place.
Umpires will cost $2,280, he said.
Selfridge continues to work on accommodations for players during away games, as well as promotional projects for the team.
Concessions and beer will continue to be available during BlueSox games, Selfridge said.
