Rain to cover to county once again
Another weekend washout is predicted for Butler County.
Tyler Wixtrom, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, said that 1 to 1.5 inches of rain in the county is expected through 8 a.m. Sunday. The heaviest rain should be Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, less than a half of an inch of rain is predicted, but Wixtrom said there is a lot of uncertainty with that prediction yet.
Aflood watch is in effect until Saturday afternoon, meaning that rain may lead to flooding in some areas.
So far this month, 5.69 inches of rain has been recorded in the county, more than an inch above normal, which is 4.16 inches. There have been 13 days this month with recorded rainfall.
The most rain fell on June 15 with 2.4 inches followed by June 16 with 1.85 inches.
Wixtrom said the reason for the unusually high amount of rain is that the region has been affected by several short-term weather patterns, bringing up a lot of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
